THE CURE FOR A VULNERABILITY HANGOVER

By | Uncategorized | 2 Comments

No, the toilet pic here isn’t supposed to be a hangover reference, though I admit there are some aspects of this process that make me so nauseated I feel like hugging a toilet bowl. Bear with me. (If you must know…I chose this pic for this post because the lovely painted wallpaper in the botanical baño just celebrated her first birthday, and she’s still so excited about her debut on Design Sponge this past Monday…sorry, her words, not mine.) Thursday’s post about our infertility journey was a big one for me. SO, naturally, I’ve been thinking about it and dwelling on it and mulling it over and going crazy with the “yikes, you said that?”s and the “maybe you went a little too deep”s and, my personal favorite, “what on EARTH do they think of you now??” But being a longtime fan of Brené Brown, I recognize these thoughts for what…

OUR INFERTILITY JOURNEY

By | Food For Thought | 14 Comments

I’m not quite sure how to introduce a post like this. It’s tough to try to summarize our infertility struggle in a nice neat package you’ll want to read, so bear with me. I’ve imagined writing about this for years, and always thought it would be amazing and beautiful to tell the story of how we became parents, looking back at a long journey of waiting and hoping and praying, with our prayers finally answered. I’ve been excited to write that story, knowing it would all be worth it by then. But this isn’t that story – that story isn’t our story, at least not yet. We are looking back on a long journey of waiting and hoping and praying, but that journey stretches out ahead of us, too. Our prayers haven’t been answered yet.  I hate that infertility is such a meaningful word to us. I hate that we’re…

WE’RE ON DESIGN SPONGE!

By | Our Home | No Comments

Eeeks! Design Sponge has been a HUGE inspiration to me over the years (as I know it’s been for many of you), so of course I was beyond elated when they asked to feature a tour of our home. One of the things I’ve always loved about DS is the fact that they embrace REAL homes, featuring “normal” (hehe, until now!!) people living in cozy, inviting spaces. I’m not sure 10-years-ago-me would’ve ever thought our place would be a “Design Sponge” home…but thanks to all of you amazing friends and family who’ve helped make our home what it is today, I’m ecstatic to be able to share this tour of our home with you guys! …WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS

By | Art, Our Home, Women Worth Knowing | 4 Comments

If you know me at all, you know I talk a lot about my friends, and I like to brag about the things they’re up to and how amazing they are. And I know that might become obnoxious to you after a while (THANK YOU SUSIE WE ALL KNOW YOU LOVE YOUR FRIENDS), but here’s the deal – I firmly believe that who we are as individuals is highly influenced by the people we surround ourselves with, those we interact with day in and day out. And I don’t know about you, but I want to surround myself with people who make me better, who inspire me and make me want to be everything I’m capable of being. With that said, let me point out a few of the things in today’s version of the living room that take it from “just okay” to “way freaking awesome” – at least in my…

JUNGALOW PAD PEEK!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Guys, I’m so excited about this. I’ve followed design blogs for as long as they’ve existed, and always thought it would be the coolest to be featured on someone’s design blog….but to be featured on THIS particular blog is more than just a little crazy to me! Justina Blakeney and her amazing plant-filled, bohemian design empire, The Jungalow, are constant sources of inspiration to me (yes, you’ve noticed, I love plants, and it was definitely Justina’s work that first got me excited about bringing more greenery into our home several years ago). So when they said they’d like to feature our home on their blog, I pretty much died. But then I got back up, straightened up the house, grabbed one of my best girls Mel to take some photos, and the result is up on their blog as we speak! Go check it out if you haven’t yet!! It…
